Several hours after his first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson, James made his way to the Library, in order to do the homework that Professor Umbranox had given them. Taking a seat at an unoccupied table, he read what they had to do: "Master the Lighting Spell and write 4 inches of parchment about it, indicating its uses in defense against dark creatures and the variations on he spell." He decided to practice the Charm first, since the Library was one of the few places where students were allowed to use magic. Taking out his wand, he pointed its tip in front of him, and whispered : "Lumos", being as silent as possible because he didn't want to disturb the others.
Driven by the confidence he gained by successfully casting the spell during his first DADA lesson, he was able to perfectly perform the spell after three or four attempts, turning the bright blue light on and off at will. James felt fulfilled like never before: he had mastered his first spell, capable of using it whenever he wanted, and could now truly consider himself a wizard.
He then cheerfully searched for the Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) in his schoolbag, and after finding it, he roamed through the Library looking for the second grade in the series, as he apparently needed both to achieve his homework. A few moments later, he was comfortably installed in his chair, browsing the books to find the information he needed.
