| One of the most basic, helpful spells is the wand lighting spell. What it does is that it lights the tip of the caster's wand, sending a ray of warm light out of the wand. You pronounce it Loo-mos, but it is spelt Lumos.
Lumos is one of the easiest and most useful basic spells, and that is because of a number of multiple reasons. The most known and used reason is for vision,as most people use this spell when in dark places. And another reason, (although not used as much as the first one but still practiced) is to repell spooky souls and sprirts, and also to repell a spectral dog that only comes at night. It is called a Gytrash. This specter is a very fast, and dangerous one, but if we describe it physically we can say it has a long, forked tail. It is very sensitive to the lumos spell because it does not like light. Another reason why this spell is helpful to people who have the Trace on them and people who don't, is because this spell is one of the very few spells not tracked by the Trace.
There are 2 variations for lumos, the first one is Lumos Solem. Lumos Solem is a spell that releases a beam of very bright light. This light is very warm, as warm as sunlight. Lumos derived the Latin lumen means "light" and Solem derived the latin solis means "of the sun.' To cast this spell the only thing you have to do is to point at your target. Lumos Solem also has a few uses in Defence Against the Dark Arts. The most used one is a powerful weapon against the Devil's Snare, which is a plant with the magical ability to cause suffocation or strangle anything surrounding it or anything that tries or actually does to touch it. It also prefers a dark, damp environment, which is the reason it will stop its movement in front of bright light and will move away from the heat of fire, Lumos Solem spell has saved alot of lives, maybe it ought to save yours too. Beams of light coming out of your wand when you cast Lumos Solem are very accurate.
Lumos Duo is another variation on the Lumos spell. It is not very know or practiced but is worth mentioning. Its job is creating a light connection between your wand and an object. For example, one of its uses is to charge crystal balls with light. Its incantation is Lumos Duo, derived from the Latin lumen, meaning "light," and the Latin duo, meaning "two", and there is no specific hand movement required for this spell. The spells uses of this variation of the Wand Lighting Charm, apart from its primary effect, still remain unknown.

| James Riddle Ravenclaw First Year Defence Against the Dark Arts Homework: The Lighting Spell The Lighting Spell is a basic charm in a wizard’s arsenal, which allows him to cast a bright light from his wand, using it as a lantern to illuminate dark areas. However, apart from its primary effect, this spell, performed by pronouncing the Latin incantation Lumos (LOO-mos) and pointing the wand at the area targeted, can also be very useful in Defence Against the Dark Arts. The Wand Lighting Charm represents one of the only weapons effective against spectral foes, proving to be as powerful when it comes to malevolent spirits and ghosts as when dealing with spectral creatures, such as the Gytrash, a fast and dangerous ghost dog. The powered up version of the Lighting Spell can also be quite practical in fighting against the Dark Arts. Performed with the incantation Lumos Maxima and an S-shaped wand movement, it has the same uses as its basic version, but presents an important advantage: it allows the wizard to ward off his foes from a safe distance, as it casts a light ball that can be thrown through the air. The two variations on the Wand Lighting Charm can also be used to repel Dark Forces. The first, performed by pronouncing Lumos Solem, casts a narrow very bright beam of sunlight, that, when targeted precisely at some creatures or plants, can save one from them. For instance, the Devil’s Snare, a dangerous plant attempting to strangle anyone who would come to close to it, can be driven away by this spell. The second variation on Lumos is Lumos Duo, a charm creating a light connection between the caster’s wand and any object. However, this spell’s effects in Defence Against the Dark Arts remain relatively mysterious. In conclusion, the Wand Lighting Spell, along with its powered up versions and its variations, remains mostly known and used for its primary effect, serving as a torchlight, but can prove to be very useful and effective when dealing with specific Dark Creatures. | |

| One of the simplest and useful spells wizards and witches can use is the wand lighting charm called Lumos (Loo-mos). This spell will produce a warm light at the end of the caster's wand. This spell can be casted by pointing your wand in the place you want light to be shed off.
There are two variations of this spell: Lumos Solem and Lumos Duo.
Lumos Solem is a spell that if conjured, will produced a specific light, which is sunlight at the end of your wand. It is also used to cast away some creatures who can't survive the sight of sunlight. Lumos, meaning light and Solem, meaning of the sun in Latin.
Lumos Duo is another kind of variation of Lumos that will produce light in your wand and light in an object you want to have light on. This is a perfect spell to cast when you want an object to have light when it is far away for you, having more light than one in your wand. Lumos, meaning light and Duo, meaning two.
Another kind of Lumos is Lumos Maxima, the advanced kind of spell in the Lumos family. This spell will produce a massive ball of light. Unlike the other three lumos, this one is the most essential for a wizard to use. It can light up a room without too much effort.
The light produced in Lumos Maxima can also be thrown in a direction where the caster wishes to. It can be very useful to see places which are not easily accessible. Aurors use this spell often to investigate some cases in dark places. In fact, this is one of the requirements to be an Auror.
Lumos is a spell used for charms and also, used in Defense against the dark arts. All wizards and witches will be and should be familiar with this kind of spells.

Regarding wand lighting spell the thing we have to say is that it is one of the easies spells in the spell-bok which does not make it useful. On a contrary it is one of the most useful spells there and it is spell that everyone needs to learn. Their involvement's in everyday life are numerous, from casting the light over the dark room, to saving your life in dangerous situations where light is low. Its incantation is Lumos (pronounced LOO-mos) and it is derived from the latin lumen meaning light. In order to sad a spell you need to move your wand like a cresenct or point it at a place where you want to light. In order to put out the light you need to say Nox, which makes it a counter-spell for Lumos.
There are some variations on the topic of wand-lilting charm. One of them is Lumos Solem, derived from the Latin word Solem which means sun. this charm create light in the warm are oaf the specter and is normally used for creating the sunlight. Its usages are also numerous from destroying Devils snare, to making plants grow. Lumos duo is also one of the variations on the topic and it creates light connection between the wand and the object, it can normally be used for lighting the balls of light. Other uses can vary, but apart from its primary effect other is unknown. Lumos Maxima is third variation on the topic and is used for creating stronger light than lumos. It creates massive ball of light at the end of the wand that can be cast off the wand and float in mid air. In order to cast it you need to move your wand in an elongated S form, but to cast it off the wand you need an additional wand movement in whip like action. Lumos Maxima has same effects as normal wand lighting charm, except it is much more powerful.
Since it is basic charm everyone need to know how to cast it, it is useful in battling dark arts because it gives you advantage of being able to see where you normally would not, especially when you are battling Dark creatures that can see in the dark.

Wand lighting Charm Essay.
Lumos (derived from the Latin word lumen meaning light) is one of the most simplest and most useful charms, which causes the tip of the casters wand to emit a bright blue or yellow light. The conterpart to lumos is Nox. It has various uses the main being to illuminate dark places, Lumos light can even light the dark caused by dementors presence. Lumos is also the only known spell effective at repelling spectral foes such as Gytrashes and malevolent spirits. It can also be used against creatures that do not like light, such as devil's snare.
Lumos is one of the few spells that can not be detects by the Trace placed on witches and wizards under the age of 17, meaning that it can be used by underage witches and wizards outside of Hogwarts.
There are several variations of the charm which include Lumos Solem ( which produced a much brighter and warmer ray of light), Lumos Duo (which creates a light connection between your wand and a chosen object) and lumos maxima (which is a stronger version of the original spell. it creates a massive ball of light that is so powerful it can be cast of from the end of a wand and continue on for several minutes, merely floating in midair).
